The reduction of vitamin K1 by an enzyme from dog liver.
Most of the research concerning the biological role of vitamin Kr (2methyl-3-phytyl-l , 4naphthoquinone) has been concerned with its function in blood clotting (1) ; however, substances which possess vitamin K activity are found in organisms such as bacteria and higher plants (1,2) which have no blood-clotting system. The role of the vitamin in these organisms has not been established but may b...
متن کاملEffect of warfarin on the metabolism of phylloquinone (vitamin K1):dose-response relationships in man.
Summarg 1. The dose-response relationship between the oral anticoagulant, warfarin, and its effect on the metabolism of phylloquinone (vitamin K,) has been examined in normal male volunteer subjects. 2. In each study the subject received a single, oral dose of warfarin and, 2 h later, an intravenous injection of [l ',2'-3H2 Jphylloquinone. Changes in the metabolism of phylloquinone were assesse...
متن کاملPlasma vitamin K1 concentrations in cystic fibrosis.
Plasma concentrations of vitamin K1 were similar in 37 patients with cystic fibrosis (median 46 ng/l) and 16 controls (49 ng/l). The plasma concentrations were lower than those previously described in adults, but higher than in neonates. There was no association between an increase in prothrombin time and vitamin K1 plasma concentration.
متن کاملPhylloquinone (vitamin K1) content of vegetables
Assessment of vitamin K (VK) dietary intakes has been limited by incomplete VK food composition data for the US food supply. The phylloquinone (VK-1 or vitamin K1) concentrations of a variety of geographically representative vegetables (n 1⁄4 218) were determined by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescent detection. Green leafy and flower vegetables including broc...
متن کاملRole ofhaem in the induction of cytochrome P-450 by phenobarbitone
The role of haem synthesis during induction of hepatic cytochrome P-450 haemoproteins was studied in chick embryos in ovo and in chick embryo hepatocytes cultured under chemically defined conditions. 1. Phenobarbitone caused a prompt increase in the activity of 5-aminolaevulinate synthase, the rate-limiting enzyme of haem biosynthesis, and in the concentration of cytochrome P-450. This inductio...
